About Remove Image Metadata

Photos from phones and cameras often carry hidden details: the GPS position where they were taken, the camera or phone model and its serial number, the date and time, and the editing software. Choose one or more images and the panel lists what each one contains, with location selected for removal first. Choose what to remove, and every result is read back to confirm it is gone.

JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF are cleaned by removing the metadata blocks from the file itself, so the picture is not re-encoded and stays exactly the same. The rotation flag is kept so photos still show the right way up, and colour profiles are kept unless you choose to remove them. Formats that cannot be cleaned this way are saved again as a high-quality copy, and the panel says so.

Remove Image Metadata: frequently asked questions

How do I remove the location from a photo?

Choose the photo; GPS location is already selected for removal. Choose any other details to remove and save. Each result is read back to confirm the data is gone.

Does removing metadata reduce image quality?

Not for JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF: the metadata blocks are removed from the file itself, so the picture is not re-encoded. Other formats are saved as a high-quality copy, and the tool says so.

Will my photos still appear the right way up?

Yes. The orientation flag is kept so photos still display upright. Colour profiles are kept too unless you choose to remove them.

Can I clean several photos at once?

Yes. Add as many photos as you like; each one is cleaned in your browser and the results can be downloaded together.
