About Convert from JPG
Convert photographs to PNG or arrange several images into an animated GIF. The frame list includes Earlier and Later controls, so order can be changed without dragging. Set the delay in milliseconds and choose whether the GIF should loop. A single image also produces a valid still GIF.
GIF has a limited colour palette and is a poor substitute for a high-quality photograph. Animation frames are fitted to the first frame’s shape and capped at an 800-pixel side to keep local processing manageable. Longer delays create a slower slideshow. PNG preserves the decoded image pixels but cannot restore detail already lost to the source JPG.
Convert from JPG: frequently asked questions
How do I make an animated GIF from several JPG photos?
Add the photos, put them in order with the Earlier and Later controls, set the delay between frames in milliseconds and choose whether it loops. Then save as GIF.
Why is the GIF smaller than my photos?
Frames are fitted to the first frame’s shape and capped at 800 pixels on the longest side to keep processing practical. For larger or longer animations, try GIF Maker.
Will converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. PNG keeps the pixels exactly from now on, but it cannot restore detail already lost in the JPG.
Why do my photos look grainy in the GIF?
GIF can only use a limited palette of colours, so smooth photos can show banding. An MP4 slideshow from GIF Maker keeps photos much smoother.
