About Redact PDF
Mark the regions that must not appear in a shared PDF. Preview each relevant page and add a removal rectangle by dragging or using numeric coordinates. Multiple rectangles can be placed on different pages before export. Review every mark at a readable size.
Export renders all pages, covers the selected pixels and creates a fresh PDF containing only lossless PNG page images. Original PDF text, objects, attachments, forms, links and metadata are not copied. This sacrifices searchability and vector detail to avoid retaining concealed original content. It cannot remove sensitive information you did not mark, including visible content on other pages. Inspect the final rebuilt document before sharing.
Redact PDF: frequently asked questions
How do I redact a PDF?
Preview each page and drag a rectangle over every area to remove, or type its coordinates. Then export the redacted PDF.
Is the redacted text really gone?
Yes for what you marked. Every page is rebuilt as an image with those areas covered, and the original text, objects and metadata are not copied into the new file.
Why can I no longer search the redacted PDF?
Rebuilding pages as images removes all selectable text, which is how hidden content is prevented from surviving. Run OCR PDF afterwards if you need search.
Does it find sensitive information automatically?
No. It removes only what you mark, so review every page before sharing.
